Holly and Luke’s Mali Brae wedding in the Southern Highlands was an absolute stunner. It was filled with love, laughter and tears.
I first met Luke a few years back, at a wedding. He was the hired videographer for the day. We sorta clicked on the day, he saw how I worked with my couples and I guess he liked that. Fast forward to now, me photographing him at his wedding with the lovely Holly!
Mali Brae Weddings Tips!
1. What was your favourite moment?
It sounds cliché – but the entire wedding was just filled with so many amazing moments and so much love! But if we had to pick our favourite moment it would have to be the walk back down the aisle together as we were showered in confetti. It was so beautiful to share and celebrate such a special moment with the humans that we love most in this world. We laughed and smiled the entire way down and it was so nice to see our friends and family share in our happiness. This moment definitely made the 6 months of hole punching gum leaves into hearts well worth it. Just quietly, we’re obsessed with the shots Dan captured of this moment.
2. Why did you choose 2 dresses?
It was really difficult to find a dress I loved – especially with Luke being a wedding videographer and seeing almost every style of wedding dress. I initially found a dress I loved, only to have the bride of the wedding we filmed the next weekend wear the exact same dress. I knew I wanted something different and I’d always loved two-piece dresses. When I found my two-piece, I knew it was the one. It was different and something I hadn’t seen before and the designer, Tatyana Merenyuk, was amazing and let me customise the design.
The second dress was a last-minute decision. We’d seen multiple brides change into a more ‘dance friendly’ dress before entering the reception and I thought this was such a good idea. I’d visited Grace Loves Lace when I first started looking for dresses and fell in love with a simple, chill stretch lace dress. I’ve always loved this brand and my dress was super comfortable and very easy to dance in (and I LOVE to dance). So, I decided to wear two dresses and before I entered the reception, I changed and put on my sneakers.
3. Would you do anything differently?
I (Holly) wish I hadn’t stressed so much into the lead up. I now realise that the only thing that matters on a wedding day, is that you’re marrying the love of your life in front of your favourite people and that’s what’s important.
4. Stand out vendors
Oh my goodness. We are in LOVE with all of our vendors. We’re lucky – being in the wedding industry, we had come across many vendors and knew exactly who and what we wanted. The incredible Francis Floristry created magic. We put all of our trust in her more than capable hands, let her make the décor and flower decisions and we were absolutely blown away. Another stand out, was Kahuna Duo (+ DJ Shortstar). We found Kahuna on Instagram and we were instantly obsessed. The effortlessly cool duo were beyond amazing – to the point that Luke didn’t want to do anything else but stand there and listen to them play during our photoshoot ha!
Our celebrant Jess Mutch was also amazing and we loved how she now feels like a friend.
Lastly, Dan. My god. You are just amazing at what you do. Luke met you a few years back at a wedding and he came home talking about how great you were. Your chill and creative vibe is exactly what we wanted, and boy did you deliver.
5. Why Mali Brae farm?
We’ve seen many wedding venues through our filming gigs. But boy, to us nothing compared to Mali Brae. Its chill vibe, cool owners and stunning surroundings sold us the second we stepped foot on the property. The wet weather option here is just as beautiful as all the other ceremony spots and the reception barn is absolutely stunning (and air-conditioned!). Even before we were engaged, we filmed a wedding here and we both just knew that there was something special about this place.
