Jo and Jake’s Jaspers wedding in Berry was epic, scary and lovely!

You might think why did I use the word scary? Well, I opened the story with some shots of the hectic bush fires that were raging on the south coast of New South Wales mid December to January 2020. One of the closest fires was roughly 30kms South of Jaspers, Berry.

You could literally smell the fire! During the evening for the sunset portion of the portraits with Jo and Jake a strong southerly came through pushing in some of the ash! It was kinda apocalyptic.

Jaspers Wedding Answers From The Bride

Why did you choose Jaspers, Berry for your Wedding?

My favourite holiday spot is Jervis Bay, and every time we go down we stop off in Berry. I love the feel of the town and it just reminds me of being on holiday. Jaspers was the first venue we visited, and we fell in love pretty quickly. We loved the greenery and the rustic feel, as well and it’s simplicity. When we found out it was a renovated school (Jake and I are both teachers), we locked it in

Describe your emotions in the lead up to the wedding?

Jake and I were both pretty relaxed leading up to the wedding. We were excited to celebrate with our friends and family and have a little getaway with the bridal party. As we got closer to the date however, the tragic fire season was peaking and that was pretty stressful.

I think a lot of brides and grooms worry about things like the flowers not looking right, but instead we were wondering if the wedding would be able to go ahead. It also led to really mixed emotions for both Jake and I because while we wanted to celebrate our love, we also felt so much sadness for the people down on the south coast and of course wanted all of our guests to be safe. In the end, Jaspers were incredible. They were calm, kept us in the loop with the RFS, and the wedding went off without a hitch.

What would you do differently if you had to do it all again?

Eat more! Or have asked someone to put a plate aside of all the different canapés and meals for us to eat at the end of the night. Jake and I were too busy/distracted to eat properly and when we were looking through photos we realised there were all these dishes we didn’t even try!

Any stand out vendors?

We were lucky and had incredible vendors all round. All of them were professional, fun and really non-obtrusive for our Jaspers Wedding.

Any tips for other brides and grooms?

None that don’t sound super corny. Maybe just to pick your bridal party well, because they are definitely the backbone of your wedding. Ours were incredible, and made our night one of the best nights of our lives.
