Occasionally I do a few commercial shoots during the wedding off season. For this particular shoot Bree from Obala Beauty Bar was searching around the inter-webs for a south coast wedding photographer to capture Felicity in two bridal gowns. I got the call and before you knew it I was photographing Felicity on a local beach at sunset.

I chose to shoot in the shade for the first location, only because the light at the time of day was pretty harsh. Plus I wanted to experiment, which is one of the main reasons why I say yes to these shoots. It helps me understand and learn more about light on how it bounces and casts on different colours and textures.

The second location was at one of my favourite local beaches. We had to rush for most if this bit as we were against the clock with a dress change and makeup touch-ups. You can see as you scroll down that the warm sun-light dropped pretty quickly as it settled into what we photographers call “blue hour”. I find that’s the best time to get the best photos in the softest light of the day.

You may have seen Felicity on a national TV show called Seven Year Switch.

Felicity’s gown was from Cheboom Bridal Boutique.
